Delay and inadequacy of service

Accident and emergency services
June 21, 2023
I spent an excruciatingly painful 5 hours in A&E Chorley Hospital waiting for suspected vertebral fractures to be X-rayed. At the same time, people were waiting simply to be given appointments for the blood clinic. All became clear when, on another occasion, I attended the blood clinic, with the form and envelope from my G.P.. I waited a long time although there were only 3 people waiting in the clinic while two phlebotomists chatted and laughed in the two rooms. When my ticket number came up and I presented my form, I was turned away. "You have to take this to A&E to get an appointment for this clinic." I protested that I had always come here for blood tests, only to be told that it had changed and they would do only requests from consultants , not G.P.s This is an outrageous waste of time and resources, insulting to patients and staff alike. To have a large, empty waiting room, with twp phlebotomists having nothing to do, while patients clutter up A&E, despite the fact that they have already seen a doctor and have the necessary form, is bad management. The blood taken is the same blood, goes to the same lab and uses the same forms but only after sending the unfortunate patients on a tour of the hospital, cluttering up A&E and wasting time for everyone concerned. The former practice needs to be reinstated without delay. Patients need to be able to drop into the hospital at times convenient for them and phlebotomist need to be doing their jobs, taking blood according to what is requested on the forms, not be distracted by deciding which patients they will attend and which they will not. How much time to they waste directing patients to another part of the hospital. By the time they had told me, they could have had the blood out of my arm and in the envelope provided. The system presently in place means that they are dealing with G.P. patients TWICE.

physio department

June 14, 2023
I have had a problem with the physio department at Chorley Hospital.
I went for an appointment with the physio to wait an hour, when I approached reception they told me he had gone home for the day.
The physio rang me back and told me he had booked me an appointment and to come down for an appointment, I went down checked in at reception and half an hour later I went to reception to be told he had left and gone home again.
I have tried to contact the physio again but I've had no reply and he hasn't called me back to reschedule or apologies.

Blood clinic problems

June 14, 2023
I am not happy with the blood clinic, they messed my relative around for no reason.
He was called for a blood test which he attended, he got a phone call saying you need to come and have a blood test which he already had. He went for the second blood test to have the same call telling him he hadnt been, they later told him they had lost both his bloods. He went for a third blood test and they rang again telling him that his blood had been put in the wrong vile. The fourth time he went they told him his blood was void so had to retake the test.
So in the space of three weeks he had 5 blood tests not a fault of his own and he has a physical disability. This is not right and they need to make sure they are securing blood samples correctly.

i feel that chorley hospital has really improved recently, the staff are very caring and supportive and the appointments come through quite quickly.
When you walk into the hospital you are greeted by lovely people who help you around the hospital and the staff in the clinics are so lovely.

Great stay on Brindle Ward

General Surgery
January 17, 2023
Felt very cared for and looked after whilst I had a few nights stay on Brindle ward. The staff are friendly and pleasant despite how busy it was from time to time. I felt my emotional needs were met as a younger patient on the ward. I was able to stay in a lovely side room where I could have privacy with my young family at visiting and get sleep undisturbed by other patients. I’m sure this really helped to aid a quick recovery for me. Marie Walker, a volunteer was amazing, keeping me topped up with cups of tea and company.

A&E

September 6, 2016
One group member commented about Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. They said:
“I attended Chorley A&E before it closed. I attended for Sepsis and had a six-hour
wait for blood tests in a store room. I saw nobody during that time and felt forgotten
about.”
