Let's be social

What is Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership?

A Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership is an independently-led NHS working group for mothers, birthing people and families to share their maternity experiences in Lancashire and South Cumbria with commissioners and providers. By sharing their experiences, they are involved in the design, improvement and implementation of maternity services. This ensures that services are designed to meet the needs of local women, parents and families.

MNVP was introduced after the publication of the ‘Better Births’ National Maternity Review in 2016, which set out a clear vision for maternity services across England to become safer, more personalised, with better mental health care and multi-professional working.

We are looking for volunteers!

Your local MNVP Leads

Asiya Shah – Preston, Chorley & South Ribble MNVP Lead

” Hi, I’m Asiya, Lead for Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership in the Preston, Chorley, and South Ribble region. Previously, I actively engaged with the Maternity Voices Partnership as a service user representative, sharing my personal experiences through four pregnancies and births—three at Royal Preston and one at home with support from the Ivy team.

I’m a passionate advocate for informed decision and informed choice. I have a professional background of many things including running my own business and being a school governor, most recently volunteering for Families and Babies as a breastfeeding supporter and training as a perinatal doula.

I’m excited to have the opportunity of meeting local families and understanding their unique maternity journeys. Advocating for these families and providing a platform for them to express their experiences is crucial. This initiative aims to bring about positive changes and advancements in our future maternity services. Our focus is on ensuring that the voices of women and their families, particularly those from underrepresented and minority backgrounds, are genuinely heard.”

“Hi, I am Anne Goodwin and I am the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) Lead for East Lancashire. I provide a focus for service user involvement and coproduction with service providers that they use throughout the antenatal, perinatal and postnatal period. I am passionate about ensuring equity of access to excellent and safe maternity and neonatal care, choice and personalisation of the maternity journey and informed consent with clear and consistent evidence-based communication of the risk and benefits of the options offered. I particularly aim to engage with seldom heard communities and those whose baby is admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care.

The East Lancashire footprint covers Ribble Valley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Burnley, Rossendale and Blackburn with Darwen, and maps onto the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT) service area. If you have used these services recently and would like to provide feedback, be involved in coproduction work or make a suggestion about maternity and neonatal services in East Lancashire, I would love to hear from you!”
