Great care 16 Gynecology

July 19, 2024
I have just spent 10 days as a paitent on ward 16 gynecology, when I was admitted I was extremely anxious and in terrible pain, all the staff on the ward did everything possible to help me, they were patient, kind and empathetic, I also had a lovely visit from the trusts therapy dog Alfie. I honestly don't think I could have recived a better quality of care at such a difficult time.

Very quick response

I fractured my arm last week and was admitted to Accident and emergency at Burnley. They have referred me for surgery next week. They have made sure that I am looked after and have given me good advice on how to look after the fracture. They had a laugh with me about how I got my fracture and made me feel at ease about the situation.

Out of hours were very helpful

Paediatrics/children services

I took my child to the out of hours after phoning 111. I was seen by a doctor and they referred us straight to Blackburn hospital for observations without any questions asked. They listened to us and did what they could to ensure that we were given the care that we needed.

Overall my experience was excellent, the only negative was staff shortages. The nurses were very overworked that they actually forgot one of the children on the ward. No-one realised that they had come onto the ward.

I had to wait even though there were no other patients present in the waiting room. When I was seen by the medical staff I found them satisfactory.

I felt that the staff were extremely rude and gave me no information. I found the whole experience upsetting.

I have a gluten-free diet but was unable to have this diet when I was staying on the ward because the patient in before me had ordered my meal. I couldn't eat the meal and so I was left with 2 pieces of gluten-free bread and no butter. I was left feeling hungry and I checked myself out of the hospital early so that I could get something to eat.
