Lost medication, understaffed, lack of communication. These are problems I have experienced on this ward. Even the consultant apologised for mix-ups in communication. The lifts have been dirty - blood stained.

MAU

Husband has autism and took an accidental overdose of paracetamol. When we arrived at MAU they looked at him like he was dirt. The nurse spoke to him quite aggressively saying "What have you done this for?" He also takes insulin as a diabetic but they said that because it was late at night he could not get any food. I had to drive home and then back again to give him food.

Went with a chest infection. They lost his support boots. They took the dressing off for his foot ulcer and then sent the bandage home to me. He walked around Royal Blackburn Hospital without his boots. I couldn't come to the hospital because I was unwell but the sister didn't give me much information about him. When discharged he had to wait for his prescriptions all day but I already had them at home.
The food was very good. The staff looked after him but there were some problems as above. I would recommend it but it would be low down on my list.

Liver

Husband needed insulin but I ended up having to give it to him as staff were not doing it, one of the nurses was really nice, very polite and tried to help even though she was really busy, the other nurse shouldn't have been a nurse. The patients were spaced out and there didn't seem to be enough staff - trust the 2 nurses. It was horribly dirty to the point where I took pictures. The building was old which is fine but it felt more like an asylum. The medicines were late as well. The nurse said one day that they don't know anything about autism so struggled treating her husband. There was a lack of privacy and conflicting information from different nurses.

The service has been excellent.

The service has been excellent. Received lots of attention from the staff. The worst part was the food, particularly with the lack of choice.

Ward 4C

Went in with pancreatitis. I was in a passageway until 4 am. Staff only partially caring, the staff didn't have time for you. Took some bowel syrup and was on the toilet all day. They said it was due to an infection so discharged me. I said I was still too ill but they still discharged me. I was ill for another two weeks at home. It felt like they were trying to get rid of me. I haven't got a good impression and don't want to go there again and definitely wouldn't take the syrup they gave me for bowels.

Doctors are brilliant but the hospital lets itself down at the weekend as not enough doctors - bank staff less familiar and small problems take ages to solve always visibly cleaning. Parking can be difficult . Consultant is absolutely fantasic.
