CC - poor experience
A person discussed an experience in A&E at Royal Blackburn Hospital for mother with dementia just less than a year ago. She said that initially the experience in A&E was fine until she was sent to a ward. She said the hospital overall “appeared very full and felt understaffed”. There was confusion around the transfer to a ward. The ward was inappropriate for someone with dementia. She did praise a member of staff (Sandra Nuttall) for being sympathetic and helping but when she was moved to another ward there were still a number of issues she felt was a result of not enough staff and a lack of awareness of treating people with dementia. She did state “At the time I was very understanding with staff but later on I wish I had of been more assertive.” She felt that they were blanked by staff. She said “I avoid going to Royal Blackburn Hospital.”
