Lack of Communication Cause Unnecessary Upset
On arrival, parking was extremely difficult so I had to leave the hospital and park further up the road and walk all the way back to the hospital. We were 15 minutes early for appointment but we were seen 30 minutes late with no apology. My dad was taken through to his appointment and I was taken to a separate waiting area. I asked a member of staff if there was anywhere I could buy a tea or coffee, to which she replied 'I dont know, I am just a student'. However, my neighbour was actually in the same waiting room and he was given a coffee and was treated extremely well. Four hours later, I was still waiting and at this point I had to leave the hospital to try and get some phone signal to telephone my brother. On the way back, I saw my Dad who informed me that he had still not had his procedure. I was very upset at this point, as I was hungry, anxious and worried. As time went on, I was becoming more anxious and not one member of staff updated me on my Dad's progress. My Dad's appointment ended up being over 5 hours late for a 10 minute procedure and I was left alone waiting for the entire time. After waiting for around 4 hours, I asked a visiting consultant whether there is anywhere to get a tea/coffee and he told me that he would find out. Following that, an abrupt and unsympathetic member of staff did eventually make me a hot drink but would not listen to me about what was happening with my Dad, which increased my anxiety further. Overall, there was no communication whatsoever.
