Volunteer Spotlight: Inna

February 16, 2023

Meet Inna. Inna is one of our volunteers and her story is truly inspiring.

Inna’s story:

“Hello, I am grateful to be able to share my experience.

I was born in Ukraine and worked for 32 years as a doctor. When the war started and my city was occupied by Russian troops, I decided to change my life. I came to the UK hoping to complete my diploma and be able to not only survive physically,  but to transform my trauma experience into an experience of growth.

The difficulties that I encountered were primarily the language barrier, as well as a very limited understanding of the life of English society. Having got acquainted with Dawn [volunteer coordinator] and having passed the training, I got the opportunity to delve deeper into the cultural roots of society, the rules and ethics of behaviour. I was able to see what is not on the surface.

It is important for me to be a part of society and to make my contribution to the improvement of the lives of others. I am aware that I have the skills that can be very valuable in working with Healthwatch Lancashire, since I have experience in the healthcare system. This is not my first experience as a volunteer, I helped the Ukrainian military in 2014, when the war began, and also conducted many trainings on a healthy lifestyle for Ukrainian citizens.

I want to thank Healthwatch Lancashire because your work gives people dignity and makes them happy.”

We are grateful for the time Inna has volunteered with us. During her time with us so far, we have given Inna a range of training including safeguarding and interview coaching and as a result, supported Inna to find paid work.

This is just one of the success stories from one of our volunteers.
