Not a great experience
November 5, 2025
I turned up for an appointment last week at the gynaecology department and they told me my appointment had been cancelled. I had travelled for over 20 minutes and struggled to park and I hadnt received a cancellation. They told me I had been sent a letter which i hadnt received and they told me i would now need to wait until January. i understand things happen but why didnt they just ring me to tell me? two days later i received the cancellation letter.
Our experience was absolutely terrible.
Pain management
November 3, 2025
Not enough parking, filthy and dilapidated corridors and public toilets. Toilets obviously not checked as there was unflushed faeces in the only working toilet near the main entrance and blood along the corridor. Long, unnecessary queues at the main entrance, whereupon I missed my appointment. Disarray everywhere. I was concerned then, that my experience with Pain Management would have been a negative one. A very disappointing and angering experience.
A good experience spoiled by senior nurse

Richard was admitted to hospital 13 days ago. The ambulance service was spot on, thank you. ED at Royal Preston hospital was great, resus staff were amazing
On the ward 18, the nursing staff were efficient, friendly and professional, the HCA s were good.
The ward sister was in my mind defensive and not able to take any responsibility for her ward, her team and the ancillary staff.
Whenever I asked a question she was abrupt, and brusque.. For example.. Richard was having his observations done when I arrived to be told he was being discharged. He was saturated with urine.. His pants. His bedding he was soaked when I queried how he could be ready for discharge the HCA told me she'd offered to wash him but she hadn't realised he was soaking wet. I dealt with him and then the sister (her name is [redacted for privacy]) came in to deal with another patient in the bay. When she was finished and was washing her hands I asked if I could have a word with her "yes", she said stood where she was. I had to ask her to one to me to talk. When I questioned Richards readiness to come home she started to explain to me but decided to call in someone to explain the situation. He obviously found the situation difficult and I accepted his explanation.
Later on I left the bay to find someone to tell me why some of Richards meds not opened, had he not been having them. I found [redacted for privacy] (admittedly busy at a computer terminal) and asked her. She was, again, defensive and not answering coherently. A staff nurse approached and asked [redacted for privacy] if she could speak with me. That staff nurse was amazing... Calm, clear and very empathetic. She explained satisfactorily why the meds had not been opened. I was angry, upset and perhaps not listening properly to [redacted for privacy] but on two occasions the person in charge on my opinion, passed the buck. Why is she in that position? I am amazed that thy e ward runs as smoothly as it does. It almost as of they do well in spite of her leadership rather t an because of her leadership

A &E terrible experience
Accident and emergency services

Terrible experience at Preston RPH, it’s not fit for purpose, overcrowded and disorganised. Was first sent to wait for a doctor who saw hardly any patients. Then was told that was a mistake and was sent back to wait in general A &E. There was no oversight of the waiting area. There were people in real distress who were left waiting, all the time I was there.
Poor quality run down facilities with not enough seating, a prisoner lying across several seats while elderly people were left standing . It didn’t feel safe. I live locally but would avoid this place if at all possible. I left after 3 hours and went to Chorley, where I got fast and efficient treatment.

shortage of staff,low morale

Shortage of staff, sickness or inexperienced, feared to discuss safeguarding issues openly.
Too understaffed to provide full care
Maternity

The team at Sharoe Green were brilliant but they were so understaffed that they were unable to provide person centred care. I had an extended stay in hospital after having my baby due to lack of support from staff. I would ask for help and due to them being so busy I would only recieve the help hours later.
No anaesthetic or pain relief at hot clinic
Plastic Surgery
August 30, 2025
Despite telephoning in advance and telling 3 members of staff how anxious I was I was not offered any anaesthetic or pain relief. I had a wire removed from my finger - the removal of the dressing was excruciatingly painful and the removal was very unpleasant. A very sticky plaster was then applied to the finger with the adhesive clinging to the exposed stitches. The staff were pleasant but showed no empathy. I feel this treatment was very poor and I'm extremely upset
Very caring, considerate and respectful

miscommunication with patients
Medical assessment unit

my husband was in Preston hospital on the medical assessment unit and was discharged into care. they said they had provided him with a DNR so wherever he ended up they would be able to see this and have it over his bed. when he got transferred out of the hospital the place he ended up in rang me and told me to verify his date of birth and name and i was wandering why. they told me the DNR that was given to me at the hospital had the wrong date of birth on which made it invalid. i couldn't believe this, i have been back and changed this but surely this shouldn't be happening.
Gynaecology communication
August 8, 2025
ive had an awful time at Royal Preston hospital with gynaecology, ive had multiple surgeries and i saw my consultant at the end of last year and they said "i think we need to try something more holistic instead of surgeries" but then didnt give any alternative options. they have put me on some medication to stop the symptoms of endometriosis and ive been told to basically get on with it. the medication they have put me on has put me into early menopause and i didnt know that would happen. i was told to take the medication and i would receive a follow up appointment. it is now August and i haven't received one. the communication is poor within gynaecology and i feel the staff and the secretaries dont want to speak to you and see you as an inconvenience.
