In patient - overnight

The patient felt she was bothering staff. The staff were abrupt and not very caring and showed no compassion. There was no reassurance, no respect. The food was poor, the porridge looked like wallpaper paste. The patient told us they would never want to go into Blackburn Royal again. It was a very poor experience.

I have complex issues. Saying what do you want me to do - go back to your GP - overheard nurses saying OMG why is he here again send him home with paracetamol. Turned out he had a slipped disk.

wrong medical record and missed diagnosis

Last October I was admitted with an urine infection to Urology at Blackburn. After 3 days I was discharged with antibiotics. A week later I went to A & E as my pain had retuned. This time they X rayed me and found a kidney stone. Subsequently I had a scan at Burnley and they confirmed that the stone was passed and I was discharged. I recently noticed that a new medicine was appearing on my repeat prescription form. When I was at my GP I asked about this. He informed me that the letter from the hospital on my records said that I had been prescribed this drug for a prostrate condition. This is incorrect. I have never been told I have such an issue and I have never been given this additional drug. The GP asked questions as a check and then noted my records that this was incorrect. I am concerned that a false history has been placed on my records which could have lead to me taking the wrong medication. Also Blackburn did not identify that I had a kidney stone until I was readmitted to A and E. They should have x rayed on the first admission. they should have communicated better with me as the patient. They seem to have put erroneous information on my medical record.

CC - poor experience

A person discussed an experience in A&E at Royal Blackburn Hospital for mother with dementia just less than a year ago. She said that initially the experience in A&E was fine until she was sent to a ward. She said the hospital overall “appeared very full and felt understaffed”. There was confusion around the transfer to a ward.
The ward was inappropriate for someone with dementia. She did praise a member of staff (Sandra Nuttall) for being sympathetic and helping but when she was moved to another ward there were still a number of issues she felt was a result of not enough staff and a lack of awareness of treating people with dementia.
She did state “At the time I was very understanding with staff but later on I wish I had of been more assertive.”
She felt that they were blanked by staff.
She said “I avoid going to Royal Blackburn Hospital.”
