The role of Healthwatch Lancashire is to gather people’s experiences about health and social care services and use this feedback to inform NHS leaders and decision-makers to help influence change and shape improvements. The feedback we hear is monitored and emerging themes inform our annual work plan.

As a result, we currently have three ongoing projects and we want to hear your views.

Waiting for Wellness: Phase 2

In October, we published the report to our ‘Waiting for Wellness’ project which explored people’s experiences of mental health and accessing support in Lancashire. One of the main findings from this report were the barriers faced by young people in accessing mental health support.

As a result, we have launched a second phase to this project to gather the views and experiences of young people and parent/carers  when accessing mental health support.

‘Our voice in Health and Social Care’ British Sign Language users

Our latest project is exploring the experiences of British Sign Language (BSL) users when accessing health and social care services. This project has been designed into response to the feedback we have heard from BSL users in Lancashire about the barriers they face when accessing services.

We are collecting feedback from BSL users, carers and relatives and professionals.

Engagement will be conducted through focus groups and online surveys.

Inside Out

We have heard a range of feedback through engagement that many people had experienced poor access to healthcare following release from prison. As a result, we are starting a project, ‘Inside Out’ to explore the continuation of healthcare for those leaving prison, and what issues people are facing when returning home or relocating following their release.

We will be holding focus groups with people who have been released from prison in the last 12 months to hear their experiences. We are also conducting case studies and individual conversations for those who do not want to attend a focus group, but still want to share their experiences.
