Not a great experience

I turned up for an appointment last week at the gynaecology department and they told me my appointment had been cancelled. I had travelled for over 20 minutes and struggled to park and I hadnt received a cancellation. They told me I had been sent a letter which i hadnt received and they told me i would now need to wait until January. i understand things happen but why didnt they just ring me to tell me? two days later i received the cancellation letter.
