awful care in A&E
i went to RPH a&e a few weeks ago and it was horrific, i was in the waiting area for over 36 hours. i was in front of an elderly man who was on his own unable to stand and i had to go and ask the receptionists to take him to the toilet, give him some food and water. He'd been sat there the whole time on his own unattended, not seen by a doctor and unable to take himself to the toilet. I was then put in a side room on a drip and after a few hours i went and asked if someone was coming to see me, the receptionist openly said oh we thought you'd gone so weve taken you off our records. I couldn't believe what i had heard, i was put in that room by a doctor, surely someone knew i was in there. i was incredibly shocked and disappointed. Also when i came back out of the side room the elderly man was still there in the same position. Hospitals are supposed to be a safe space, but my experience was terrible and that poor man who was left, i really hope someone went to him and helped him. if people are coming to a&e unattended surely there is a duty of care to these patients. i wouldnt be happy if i found out my elderly relative had been sat there for over 24 hours with no toilet break, no drink and no food. i ended up helping this man as the staff wouldnt do anything, i bought him a drink and some food to keep him going. what would have happened if i wasn't there to do that, the staff need to get themselves sorted and look after patients in a&e
