translation problems

my son booked my appointment on my behalf as my English isn’t great, we told them at the time of the booking that he would be coming with me to translate, and they told me that would be fine. We turned up for the appointment and they said that they couldn’t accept him as a translator, and they would have to reschedule my appointment. We asked about language line, but they said they don’t use it. They told me to book in again for a months’ time and bring back a qualified translator. I cant afford a translator, shouldn't the practice be providing this for me?
