Rookwood B Ward
I went to visit a family member in the Rookwood B ward at Chorley Hospital last night. When I was there I witnessed a negative interaction between another patient and a health care assistant. The patient asked for support to the bathroom, so the assistant came. The patient was spoken down to, not listened to, and rushed. It seemed assisting the patient was a burden, and at one point the patient told the assistant ‘I’m not deaf, you don’t need to shout at me’, but the assistance continued to speak in a loud voice audible to everyone in the ward. I have heard other comments from family members that it always seems short staffed with no nurses around for assistance. Evening visiting times start at 6.30, but due to the ward being locked nobody could get in until 6.40. No staff member would answer the buzzer, and it was only when a nurse was entering the unit were we able to get in.
