xray department concerns

April 5, 2024
I went with a relative to the Xray department at chorley hospital on Tuesday 2nd April about 11:20am and the reception team were very rude. my relative said hello I've been asked to come down for an Xray by my doctor and the receptionist snapped back and said 'you mean gp?' then proceeded to shout what's your name then told her to sit down. We sat down in the waiting area and witnessed a gentleman entering the room. He went to the reception desk and said he had an appointment. The receptionist was incredibly rude to him and shouted what's your name, he dropped his walking stick and the lady behind reception didnt seem to bother and proceeded to shout at the gentleman saying have you come to the right place. He stumbled to get his letter out of his pocket to hand to the lady. She responded with 'im not touching that, i wont touch that letter just hold it up so i can see it." The man held up the letter and she just kept shouting i cant see it hold it closer. the man was clearly distressed and this didnt help matters. She then said your in the wrong place its the next reception. He said oh im sorry ill go next door. He then tried to pick up his walking stick whilst the receptionist began shouting for the next person. But the next person couldn't get to reception as they were waiting for the man to get his walking stick. I feel this could have been an avoidable situation and i feel the receptionist shouldn't be speaking with patients in this manner.

Its a shame because the care my relative received from the staff doing the x-rays was amazing and they were very caring and helpful.

Wait times are very good

i went to chorley hospital to talk with my consultant about a knee replacement, they were lovely with me. I was also shocked that i was given an appointment 2 months later, with all the talk about referrals lately i expected to be waiting a year.

I attended the urgent care centre at 6:30 am and was the only one sat in the waiting room yet still had a 2 hour wait to see the doctor. Staff were excellent and the centre was very clean and tidy. Only got very basic information and had to look everything up online when I got home

A&E wait times

I went to A&E with a headache and I sat for 7 hours until I was put on a trolley as I said I needed to lie down, after an hour I was told I had to move back to the chairs as they needed the bed. The doctor said I'm discharging you with paracetamol as it's not urgent enough to stay in A&E. I went home but two days later I came back as I knew something wasn't right, again I waited 7 hours to be seen but they wanted to discharge me, this time I said no something isn't right. They sent me for a scan and they found that I had a hemorrhage in my brain and blue lighted me to Preston hospital.

Long wait times

I took my relative to urgent care a few months ago and we waited for 7 hours. I understand staff are stretched and they were busy but sitting there for 7 hours with a child with a suspected broken foot was not ideal.

We moved from down south up here and we ended up in the hospital three days after arriving. We rang 111 as we didn't have a doctors surgery set up yet and the person on the phone was phenomenal, stayed on the line for 40 minutes and ensured we got some help. The staff in the urgent care centre were incredible and looked after me so well. The only problem we had was his medical records hadn't been sent over but that wasn't the hospitals fault. They kept him over night and the staff were great. He was very well cared for and diagnosed quickly.

Appalling facilities

I attended the hospital on the 1st of November for an urgent blood test. I had been referred over by GP and headed straight there. I spent 20 minutes driving around to find a parking space and was subsequently charged for it even though I was unable to find a space! I had to ask my other half to take over the driving and go round the block whilst I received my test.

Then when I went into the hospital, imagine my horror, to learn that the blood clinic has moved from where it used to be near the outpatients entrance to the opposite side of the hospital! There were no notices around the entrance to let anyone know. I came across one on the top corridor which was a small A5 piece of paper explaining that the centre had moved and it was now located where it is now. All the way along the corridor were printed a4 signs that indicated where to go. These were very difficult to read and i am disgusted that a new centre like this has not been given adequate signage.

The care that I received was amazing, the facilities at the hospital were sub-standard.

Blood clinic concerns- I took my mum for her blood test last week and couldn't park so I dropped her off at reception whilst I found a space. It took me 40 minutes to get a space, by then I went in to find the clinic had moved and she had walked all that way on her own. she has COPD, elderly and visually impaired. It had taken her 35 minutes to get from reception to the blood clinic. By the time I arrived she was really unwell and struggling, this should not have happened. They need to move the blood clinic back to where it was.
