Safeguarding those in Lancashire’s Care Homes
Healthwatch Lancashire are currently looking into safeguarding in care homes and whether people know that they can raise a safeguarding concern.
As a part of ‘making safeguarding personal in care homes’, we are looking to speak to professionals that may visit care homes as a part of their work that have had an experience of sharing safeguarding concerns. We are also keen to hear from people who have never shared an experience.
Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. If you see or hear something which is concerning which indicates a person may be at risk of harm or abuse and unable to protect themselves, you can raise a safeguarding concern.
There are a variety of professionals that will visit care homes as a part of their work such as mobile hairdressers, entertainers, maintenance workers and grocery delivery drivers, for example. We want to gain an understanding about whether such professionals are aware of their role in sharing concerns in order to protect individuals and if they would know how to go about raising a safeguarding concern.
Our aim is to help inform professionals about their responsibility in safeguarding in care homes and ensure they have the information should they ever need to raise a concern in the future.
