Our attendance at Raza Jamia Masjid
On Sunday 30 April, our Engagement Team Leader Steve and Volunteer John attended a Community Wellness Day at Raza Jamia Masjid in Accrington.
The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Hyndburn and it was a great opportunity for us to engage with the local community. We spoke with many members of the public about their experiences of health and social care and have heard some powerful stories.
A common theme we heard was regarding access to GP appointments and the waiting times people experience on the phone. This is common feedback which we hear at Healthwatch Lancashire, and as a result, we have investigated this issue further but conducting GP Enter and View visits.

There were various organisations present at the event including the Bowel Screening service, Aawaz, Macmillan, The Alzheimer’s Society and Community Rail, who were there to share information and offer advice to the local community. This was a great opportunity for us to connect with those organisations and learn more about what support is available for people in Lancashire.
The event was a tremendous success and we are grateful for the opportunity to be able to engage with the local community.
