Lung Health Checks in Lancashire, Blackpool, and Blackburn and Darwin

February 10, 2022

The Lancashire and South Cumbria Targeted Lung Health Checks programme was launched in the summer of 2021 to offer free, and lifesaving checks on individuals’ lungs. The programme has initially been launched to target those living in the boroughs of Lancashire, Blackpool, and Blackburn with Darwin.

Those eligible, between the ages of 55 and 74 who are current or former smokers, will be sent an invitation via post to invite them for the check-up. The programme will check the working quality of the individual’s lungs and aims to detect any issues early and therefore allowing an individual’s a greater chance of survival with treatment.

During the check, the visit will be overseen and guided by a specialist nurse who will discuss any possible symptoms of any lung-related disease. In some cases, where the specialist nurse deems necessary, a low dose CT scan may be performed.
