Two of Lancashire’s clinical commissioning groups, Fylde & Wyre CCG and East Lancashire CCG, have beat off competition from more than 100 entries to be named as finalists in the clinical commissioning group of the year category.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust have both been shortlisted in the Compassionate Patient Care category and Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust are finalists in the Enhancing Care by Sharing Data and Information category.

The Fylde Coast Academic Health Science Network are shortlisted in the Clinical Leader of the Year and Chief Executive of the Year categories. Dr May Ng from Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is also shortlisted for the Clinical Leader of the Year Award.

Carers Trust Fylde Coast are also finalists for the CCG Commissioning for Carers Award.

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are the organisations responsible for planning and buying health services in their area to meet patients’ needs. This is known as ‘commissioning’.

Dr Tony Naughton, clinical chief officer for Fylde and Wyre CCG, said: “To be shortlisted in the clinical commissioning group of the year category and recognised as one of the top CCGs in the country is fantastic news and is a testament to the hard work of all of our staff.”

“We are facing some significant challenges in the years ahead: an ageing population, increasing numbers of people with complex long-term health conditions, rising expectations and increasing costs. Our aim is to positively embrace these challenges and our 2030 Vision for Health and Care sets out how we want to make sure that people living in Fylde and Wyre have the very best health and health services possible.”

Dr Phil Huxley, Chair of East Lancashire CCG, and local GP said: I am delighted that the CCG and our GP member practices have reached the shortlist stage of this prestigious award.  To be shortlisted is a great achievement.  Our job is to commission high quality, safe and sound health services for residents in East Lancashire, and to get on the shortlist is a testament to the work that everyone does to improve health care for patients in East Lancashire”.

The HSJ Awards 2015, in partnership with Celesio, will take place on Wednesday 18 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
